Since we are mostly serving scrumptious desserts instead of a full dinner at the reception, we would suggest eating someplace beforehand. If you are staying in Hastings or want to eat a little closer to the venue, RJ's Tavern is within 5 miles of Schaar's Bluff. Otherwise, see the next section for some great places to eat around the Twin Cities!

Come early, or come prepared to wait. At Al's, which was also featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, there's always a line out the door, and with only 14 stools, sitting and gabbing for hours is just not possible. At a width of only ten feet it's reportedly the narrowest restaurant in the Twin Cities. Crammed into a former alleyway between two larger buildings, there is barely enough room for folks to stand in a single-file line behind the counter. Chances are, the smarmy waitstaff WILL yell at you to move down to the old payphone (which is now only a life-size photo on the wall) if you dawdle in line, and you might even get asked if you want a bite of your neighbor's food if you drool over it too much. A Twin Cities breakfast icon, their food is cheap, but amazingly delicious, their portions are generous, and the experience is one you'll be talking about forever! (Kelsey's grandpa STILL talks about this place and it has been FOUR YEARS since she first took him here!)

Price range: $1.75 for a bottomless cup of coffee, $4.00 - $8.00 for entrees, experience = priceless ;)

** not at all health-conscious friendly, vegan/vegetarians need not apply unless you're OK with your eggs and potatoes being cooked on the same surface as the sausage and bacon...

The Seward Community Cafe has been collectively owned and operated since 1974. With more vegan options than vegetarian, and more vegan/vegetarian options than not, this is truly a healthy eater's/veg's dream. They have great organic/fair-trade/shade grown coffee, the best biscuits and (cashew) gravy we've ever eaten, and such and extensive menu it's crazy! Oh, and they are committed to social and environmental responsibility, self-reliance, and cooperation. So they are good for YOU and for the community, the environment, and humanity. :)

Seward Cafe
Price range: $1.85 for a bottomless cup of coffee, and anywhere from $3.75 for a half order of biscuits and gravy, to $10.00 for a super-red-green earth.

As you know, the wedding itself is taking place about 30 minutes south of Saint Paul (45 minutes Southeast of Minneapolis), and, if you are traveling from out of town, you have a couple of geographic options:

1. Hastings: If you are coming in Saturday afternoon and leaving Sunday morning, or simply want to stay closer to the ceremony/reception site, it may be best for you to stay in Hastings (only about a 10 minute drive from Schaar's Bluff).

2. Twin Cities: If you plan to stay for a few days, or want to be closer to the action and attractions of the city, you may want to consider staying in one of the downtown areas.

In keeping with the theme of the wedding, we tried to list unique, interesting, places to stay with a local flair and a homey feel. However, there is also a Holiday Inn/Ramada/etc. in both Minneapolis and Saint Paul and an AmericInn and a Country Inn in Hastings. If a hotel or the B&B's we have listed aren't in the budget or just aren't your style, though, the house share might be a good option! We love you all, and want you to be able to enjoy our day on YOUR terms!

Yes! We will have an open bar with Jameson+Gingers as our signature drink, Finnegans beer, and Almos Malbec red and Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc white, so plan accordingly! :)

We know we've invited some new mommies, so if you simply can't leave your baby for that long, you are of course welcome to bring them. We love all of your kiddos, but, if you do have the option of leaving them with grandma or a sitter, that would be preferable.

We will have lawn games set out and music will begin around 6:00. So if you feel more comfortable getting there early, you won't be bored. Arriving closer to 6:30, though, is just fine, too!
